How to Make White Chocolate Popcorn:

  1. Prepare the popcorn based on the popcorn instructions.
  2. Spread out the popped popcorn in a single layer on a baking sheet.I suggest lining the pan with parchment paper before putting the microwave popcorn on it for super easy clean up. (Make sure to pick out any popcorn kernels.)
  3. Melt the white chocolate chips with the vegetable oil in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave at 30 second intervals until the chips are completely melted and smooth.
  4. Now you have to act quick. Then take a fork or a spoon and drizzle melted white chocolate over the popcorn.
  5. Allow the popcorn to cool so that the white chocolate re-hardens. Then break apart the popcorn and enjoy.

How do you melt white chocolate?

You can use a double boiler to melt the chocolate but I find that it’s much easier to melt in the microwave. Make sure that you use a microwave safe bowl and microwave in 30 second intervals so that you don’t accidentally burn the chocolate.

Also, you will need to add oil when melting the white chocolate. I find that white chocolate tends to clump when melting but adding the vegetable oil help the chocolate to be creamy and easier to drizzle onto the cooked popped corn.

Substitution Ideas:

I prefer white chocolate for this recipe but if you’re not a fan of white chocolate, you can also use milk or dark chocolate chips instead. Either will work great.

Also, you can use melting chocolate or almond bark instead of white chocolate chips. White chocolate chips are generally just more affordable at my local grocery store.

Also, you can use avocado oil or coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. Just make sure that the oil has a high boiling point so that it does not burn in the microwave.

Topping Ideas:

This recipe is so fun and easy to jazz up with some of your favorite toppings to make it work for any event or any occasion. Here are some of our favorite ideas to top this popcorn recipe with.

  • Sprinkles – I love adding in sprinkles to celebrate the holidays.
  • More Chocolate Candy – Mix in some of your favorite chocolate candies. We love topping with M&Ms the best!
  • Nuts – Any type of nuts will add a nice salty crunch to this recipe as well.

You really can not go wrong with the toppings whichever way that you decide.

How much did this quick treat cost us?

I got my bagged popcorn on sale for $.50 (3 bags) which means one bag cost me $.17. The white chocolate cost me $1 for the bag, so I only used $.50 worth.

My total cost was under $1. Talk about a great treat for the family without spending a ton of money!

This is such a frugal treat and a great snack for a large family or to serve a large crowd. You do not have to worry about spending tons of money.

How to Store:

Store any leftover popcorn in an air tight container or bag at room temperature for up to 1 week.

However, I find that the popcorn is best fresh. The popcorn will become more chewy as it sits.

Everyone loves White Chocolate Popcorn:

It is the perfect salty sweet treat! You will love this easy recipe.

Sometimes we make it for movie night and it is delicious and so easy! If we are watching a movie I just put the popcorn in a large bowl and it is one of our favorite treats to enjoy.

FAQs

Why is my chocolate popcorn soggy? ›

Your looking for a light coat of chocolate on the popcorn -- too much will make the popcorn soggy and spongy. Let popcorn cool in the refrigerator until the chocolate hardens.

Will melted white chocolate chips harden? ›

I have 200g of white chocolate chips I'll be melting over a double boiler- do I need to add anything else to it? It'll harden fully without anything added, but like any chocolate it'll get soft again in a warm environment.

How do you melt white chocolate to drizzle? ›

A small amount of oil (like vegetable or canola oil) or butter can be added to the white chocolate as it's melting. The oil or butter will help to thin the melting chocolate, creating a perfect consistency for dipping or drizzling. I recommend using 2 teaspoons of oil or butter for every 8 ounces of chocolate.

How do you make air pop popcorn at home? ›

Bring the pan up to medium-high heat, and then pour the popcorn kernels onto the surface of the pan. Cover the pan and cook until the kernels begin to pop -it may take 5+ minutes for them to begin to pop. Once popping, reduce heat to medium, and gently shake the pan occasionally to prevent burning.

How do you make popcorn soft and fluffy? ›

A good lid is important when making popcorn, but there's a bit of a strategy here. For the best results, and lowest number of un-popped kernels leave the lid open just a hairline amount. It allows any steam or moisture to get out as well, resulting in fluffy kernels.

What makes popcorn crispy? ›

The best method of popping corn will evenly heat up the kernels, not too fast nor too slowly, while also allowing the developing steam to escape so the popcorn stays crisp and crunchy.

Why won't my white chocolate melt? ›

Because white chocolate is so finicky, it can easily seize if steam or water gets into the bowl while you're melting the chocolate, or if it overcooks.

What's the best white chocolate for melting? ›

The Best White Chocolate to Use for Melting

To achieve a smooth melted texture, use a bar of white chocolate or white chocolate chunks, not white chocolate chips. White chocolate chips contain stabilizers to keep the chip in that form even when melted in the oven—and they will not melt as nicely as chunks or a bar.

How long does it take for melted white chocolate to set? ›

Although using a freezer can harden chocolate more quickly, it may cause blooming, resulting in discoloured chocolate. White chocolate generally solidifies more rapidly than milk or dark chocolate, setting in around 10-20 minutes. On the other hand, milk and dark chocolate usually take 20-30 minutes to harden.

Can you fix seized white chocolate? ›

Once chocolate has seized it's not easy to coax it back to liquid form. Sometimes whisking a tablespoon of warm water into the chocolate works, then add more water a teaspoon at a time until the chocolate is smooth. Or try adding a few drops of vegetable oil or clarified butter (as it's water content has been removed).

Why is my melted white chocolate thick? ›

Chocolate seizes when it comes into contact with even a small amount of liquid or moisture during the melting process. This is because the water causes the sugar in the chocolate to dissolve and then form a syrup, which binds the cocoa particles together, creating a grainy, thick, and clumpy texture.

How do you make popcorn pop better? ›

Let off steam

Be sure the lid allows steam to escape during popping, so popcorn stays light and fluffy. And remember to always open the top away from you to avoid contact with escaping steam.

What kind of pan is best for popping popcorn? ›

A Big Stock Pot With a Lid

A big pot allows plenty of space for popped popcorn to move to the top, while the remaining un-popped kernels stay at the hot bottom of the pan, where it's exposed to the oil and heat.

How to make all popcorn pop? ›

Shake the pot so the kernels spread out evenly and let it sit for 1 minute. Turn the heat back to medium. Leave the cover slightly ajar so steam can escape. When it's been 10 seconds since you heard the last pop, that was the last kernel!

How do you fix soggy popcorn? ›

Simply spread it out in an even layer on a baking sheet and place it in a 250°F oven for about five minutes, until it's warmed through. You'll want to check on the popcorn frequently as it's in the oven just to ensure it doesn't begin to burn. Once warmed and crisp again, pour it into a bowl and snack as usual.

How do you keep popcorn from getting soggy? ›

Mixing oil and water

The oil can coat the popped corn and then helps repel the moisture from the kernel, essentially acting as a protective barrier to your crunchy snack.

Why is my popcorn always soggy? ›

You use too much oil

Kernels that are saturated with oil won't pop properly. And when they do pop, they'll explode right into a pool of oil, which will leave them soggy and sad. Less is more when it comes to oil-popped popcorn.

Why does my popcorn feel wet? ›

Moisture content plays a crucial role in the popcorn popping process. Too little moisture, and the kernel won't have enough steam to create the necessary pressure for popping. On the other hand, too much moisture can cause the kernel to explode prematurely or result in a soggy, unappetizing texture.
