Terry Wayne Shives Obituary - 2023 (2024)

Clear Spring, MD – Terry Wayne Shives, 72, of Clear Spring, MD passed away peacefully on December 10, 2023, under the care of Hospice while at Doey’s House.

Born June 24, 1951, in Berkeley Springs, WV, he was the son of Edna Shives and the late Wayne Shives. Terry grew up in Pecktonville, MD and graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1969 where he played on the baseball and soccer teams. Terry started working at Washington County Parks and Recreation at the age of eighteen and retired after serving as Superintendent of Washington County Parks and Recreation.

Terry is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Lisa A. Shives, his son Cory Shives (Megan) of Clear Spring, and his daughter Lindsey Layo (Brandon) of Keedysville, MD. He is survived by his beautiful grandchildren, Sofia, Stella, Weston, and Wren Shives, and Scarlett, Olivia, Owen, and Caroline Layo. Terry is survived by brothers-in-law Herbert (Karen) Hull, Stephen Hull, sisters-in-law Sherry Shives, Cathy (John) Davidson, nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Terry was preceded in death by his father Wayne Shives, and his brother Bruce Andrew Shives.

Terry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Maryland, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. He especially enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips to Alaska and hunting with his son Cory. Terry enjoyed doing carpentry jobs with his good friend Larry. His nightly entertainment was watching videos of his grandchildren.

Terry was a member of the Sons of the American Legion Post #222 and The National Wild Turkey Federation along with other hunting clubs in the area.

A celebration of life service will be held at St. Andrews United Methodist Church 1020 Maryland Avenue, Hagerstown, MD on Friday, December 15, 2023, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Christopher Serufusa officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks to please make a donation to Hospice of Washington County, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740/Doey’s House, or to The National Wild Turkey Federation.
