CHICAGO – Today, the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and the Chicago 2024 Host Committee announced the selection of two women-owned, Chicago-based firms, BRIGHT BEAT and PURPOSE, to serve as Sustainability Advisors for the Democratic National Convention. Bright Beat and Purpose will work with the DNCC and Host Committee to oversee and develop sustainability programming for the convention, with the goal of making the event the most sustainable Democratic National Convention in history.

“President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are taking the most transformative action in American history to tackle the climate crisis, and it’s imperative that we showcase this same commitment at the Democratic National Convention,” said Alex Hornbrook, DNCC Executive Director. “We look forward to working hand-in-hand with our partners at Bright Beat x Purpose as we strive to make this year’s convention the most sustainable in history.”

“We are thrilled to partner with two women-owned, locally based firms to ensure our strategies around sustainability can be leveraged to not only make this the most sustainable convention yet, but to leave a blueprint behind for future large-scale events in Chicago,” said Christy George, Chicago 2024 Host Committee Executive Director. “This first of its kind partnership will leave a positive, lasting impact on the city long after the convention has gone.”

“Collaboration in sustainability is vital. We commend the Democratic National Convention for leading in operationalizing sustainability, aiming not just to cut event emissions, but also to introduce climate solutions across communities and businesses city-wide. This event is pivotal for advancing Chicago's sustainability on a national scale,” said Stephanie Katsaros, founder of Bright Beat.

“We're excited to offer comprehensive sustainability insights - from measurement to mitigation - and to engage in discussions about the lasting legacy of the Democratic National Convention and Host Committee with regard to Chicago's tourism and local communities,” said Marley Finnegan, founder of Purpose.

Bright Beat x Purpose will be responsible for implementing emissions-mitigation strategies and sustainability policies, resource management and recovery, resource conservation, waste prevention, material reuse, recycling, composting, and food donation. In addition, the team will empower stakeholders to embrace sustainable practices, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility that extends far beyond the convention itself.

Bright Beat x Purpose is a partnership formed by two women-owned, local Chicago firms. Founder Stephanie Katsaros of Bright Beat has proven expertise in building collaborative, impact-oriented solutions for system-level environmental stewardship programs. Marley Finnegan of Purpose brings her accredited event sustainability education tools and technology for event emissions calculations. • ICYMI: Minyon Moore on How the Democratic National Convention Will Tell the Story of the Biden-Harris Record

CHICAGO – Yesterday, Democratic National Convention Chair Minyon Moore published an op-ed in the Chicago Tribune highlighting one of the next crucial moments in the democratic process, the Democratic National Convention. In the op-ed, Moore celebrates President Biden becoming the presumptive nominee and describes how the convention will serve as a pivotal opportunity to tell the story of the historic Biden-Harris record and the high stakes of this election, which the American people will see when they tune in to the convention in August.

    READ HERE

    Key Excerpts:

On the stakes of the 2024 election:

This year, we are once again facing an election that will define the future of American democracy – one where we must choose between unity and division, between hope and chaos. It’s a choice that we’ve faced once before, and it’s a choice that we cannot afford to get wrong.

On the significance of the Democratic National Convention:

As Democrats across the nation continue to show overwhelming support for the Biden-Harris ticket, our focus now shifts to the next stage of the democratic process: preparing for the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. This August, delegates from every U.S. state and territory will convene to formally nominate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as Democratic nominees for President and Vice President. As we come together as a party, we will also have an opportunity to tell our story to the American people. It’s a story of resilience, possibility, and progress. Chicago is the perfect place to tell this story.

On Chicago being the host city:

When I look around Chicago, I see the story of America, and when Democrats across the country gather here this summer, I know they’ll see it too. They’ll see the diversity that makes our party and our country great, they’ll walk the streets built by union labor, and they’ll see Biden-Harris investments in action. As we build the convention stage, we’ll bring that same story to all of America.

    On the historic Biden-Harris record:

The story of President Biden and Vice President Harris’ record of accomplishments is nothing short of historic. Four years ago, the country was hit by the worst economic crisis in a century. Americans found themselves out of work, and families struggled to make ends meet. The Biden-Harris administration navigated us out of that uncertainty, leading us into an unprecedented comeback: 15 million jobs. Record unemployment. A small business boom. A growing middle class.

On the threat to democracy that extreme MAGA Republicans pose:

While Democrats are focused on delivering results for middle-class families, extreme MAGA Republicans have made it clear that if given the opportunity, they will undo the progress made under President Biden’s leadership. They’ve threatened to roll back the clock on key issues like health care, reproductive freedom, and gun safety because they care more about scoring political points than addressing the issues impacting American families. As they continue to wage war on our freedoms, Democrats will use this year’s convention as an opportunity to underscore how the future of democracy at home and abroad is on the line. With the eyes of the American people turned on Chicago, the convention will offer a contrast between two competing visions for America: one guided by hope and progress, and one motivated by a desire for political retribution.

Democratic National Convention Recruits Volunteers with “Convention Coffee” and Celebrates Presumptive Nominee President Joe BidenNew List Item

Prospective Biden delegates from Illinois joined convention officials at Manny’s Deli in an enthusiastic celebration of this summer’s Democratic National Convention

CHICAGO – Today, Democratic National Convention officials joined prospective Illinois delegates and Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez for “Convention Coffee” at Manny’s Deli. Officials gathered to celebrate President Biden becoming the presumptive nominee, recruit convention volunteers, and showcase the Democratic National Convention as a next crucial step in the democratic process. The delegates on the ballot have pledged to represent Illinois at the convention and formally nominate President Joe Biden alongside their peers from all 57 U.S. states and territories.

“Across the country, Democrats are turning out in primaries to enthusiastically support President Biden and Vice President Harris, including in Illinois today. As our planning for this summer’s convention in Chicago kicks into high gear, it was an honor to be joined by some of the pledged delegates from our host state who will join us to make history and formally renominate the Biden-Harris ticket,” said Democratic National Convention Committee Executive Director Alex Hornbrook.

“I was thrilled to join some of the Democrats who will represent our state and our President in August as we look forward to the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Here in Illinois, the Biden-Harris administration’s strong record is on full display, from investments in infrastructure to new jobs and lowered health care costs. Illinois Democrats are excited to be a part of sharing that story of accomplishment with the rest of the nation this summer,” said Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Lisa Hernandez.

“I look forward to being a part of history in the making when Democrats from around the country convene in the Windy City this August to officially nominate President Biden and Vice President Harris as our party’s nominees. The stakes of this election are clear, and I’m proud to be a part of the team that will send President Biden and Vice President Harris back to the White House so they can continue to build on their historic accomplishments and defend our democracy,” said prospective Biden delegate Chris Dunn.

“Democrats in Illinois and across the nation are united behind the Biden-Harris ticket, and I’m excited to support them from the convention floor. The convention presents an unparalleled opportunity to show the world how President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is creating progress in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, and I can’t wait to showcase our city come August,” said 27th Ward Alderman and prospective Biden delegate Walter Burnett Jr.

  • ICYMI: Three Women Leading the Democratic National Convention Are Breaking Barriers

CHICAGO – On Thursday, NBC 5 Chicago celebrated Women’s History Month by recognizing the three women leading the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago: Democratic National Convention Chair Minyon Moore, Host Committee Executive Director Christy George, and Host Committee Senior Advisor Keiana Barrett.

For the first time in history, three Black women are leading a major political convention.

The leaders discussed the importance of representation in politics, building a bench for young women, and engaging the Chicago community in the convention with NBC 5’s Lexi Sutter.

    WATCH HERE

Minyon Moore on engaging Chicago in the convention:

“You just have to have some courage…The thing I know about Chicago is people participate if they are asked to participate. They participate if they are not asked to participate. They are a city that gets involved and this is a convention that we want to extend our hands and open our hearts.”

Christy George on the importance of women’s leadership:

“A woman can do this job. That a woman can run a very efficient ship, a very tight ship, that a woman cannot only just have a seat at the table, but can shape the table.”

“I have two little girls at home… and it’s incredibly important for me to be able to share with them my experiences so that they can believe and know that they can have this opportunity in their lives.”

Keiana Barrett on empowering young women:

“This will be a pivotal moment to make sure that we’re building a bench of talent for young women, for women of color, again to say no to limitations.”

“We see ourselves as visionary leaders. We see ourselves as world changers. We see ourselves as mothers. We can do everything.”

  • DNCC and DNC Statements on President Biden Clinching Democratic Nomination

Today, after Joe Biden secured the pledged delegates needed to become the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee, Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) Chair Minyon Moore and Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chair Jaime Harrison released the following statements.

Statement from Democratic National Convention Committee Chair Minyon Moore:

“America spoke, and today, Joe Biden has become the presumptive Democratic nominee for President of the United States. We have arrived at this moment because millions of Americans made their voices heard, choosing Joe Biden's vision of freedom and progress for all Americans.

“As voters across the country continue to put their faith in the Biden-Harris ticket throughout the primary, we are now looking ahead to the next step in our democratic process and preparing a convention in Chicago where President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats will have the opportunity to tell our story directly to the American people. We will tell a story of the historic Biden-Harris record: creating good-paying jobs, lowering costs, passing bipartisan bills, and delivering for the middle class. We will tell a story about the stakes of this next election and how Democrats plan to keep making America a place of progress and possibilities.

“As we face another battle for the soul of our nation, we encourage every American to tune in to the Democratic National Convention this summer to celebrate the Biden-Harris ticket and rally around Democrats’ vision of a free and fair America.

“At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this August, delegates from all 57 U.S. states and territories will convene to officially nominate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the Party’s nominees for President and Vice President of the United States.”

Statement from DNC Chair Jaime Harrison:

“This year, as we brought voices of voters of color to the forefront and embarked on the most inclusive Democratic primary in history, Democrats across the country – from South Carolina to Nevada, from Michigan to Georgia – have overwhelmingly chosen President Joe Biden to be our party’s presumptive nominee.

“Four years ago, President Biden ran on the values that bring us together as Americans: honesty, decency, and fairness. While President Biden and Democrats have made historic progress in this first term by helping create 15 million jobs, taking on Big Pharma and lowering prescription drug costs, and rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure, there is more work to be done.

“Make no mistake: this year’s election will decide the future of our democracy. Donald Trump is running a campaign focused on revenge, retribution, and his own self-interest. President Biden is running a campaign focused on what makes our country so great: the American people. President Biden understands that our freedoms, our democracy, and the very future of our country are at stake – and once again, he will meet this moment and bring Democrats together this November.

“As we move forward in this primary season and set our sights towards the Democratic National Convention this summer, we are enormously proud of the work we have done to lift up the voices of voters who have been too often left behind, and look forward to our convention in Chicago where we will officially nominate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as our nominees for President and Vice President of the United States. Let’s finish the job.”

Democrats Unveil Logo for 2024 Democratic National Convention

United Center to Display New Convention Logo as Journalists Preview Arena for Coverage Planning

CHICAGO – The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) is unveiling the logo and initial branding for the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Today, the logo will be displayed across the United Center as hundreds of journalists from across the country tour the arena, receive logistical briefings, and begin planning coverage for the convention from August 19-22. The United Center is where the Democratic Party’s formal nomination proceedings and evening programming will take place.

“This logo is designed to capture the strength, unity, and pride that people across the country have in the United States of America,” said DNCC Executive Director Alex Hornbrook. “Come August, our job will be telling a story that demonstrates these qualities to the American people and showcases the record and vision of President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats.”

Using the typeface Decimal, the “DNC” in the logo stands for “Democratic National Convention.” The vertical text nods to the iconic vertical signage seen on convention floors used to identify state and territory delegations. The brand system incorporates design elements like the Chicago star to recognize the host city. Since the convention is focused on building a platform for President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats to tell their story to the American people, the logo’s main iconography is a three-striped flag that aligns with the Biden-Harris brand.

Today’s media walkthrough and logo unveiling marks a major milestone in convention planning. More than 450 journalists joined from across the country representing local, national, and international media outlets. The Chicago Host Committee welcomed media to town Wednesday night during a reception at Buddy Guy’s Legends in South Loop.
