The History of Galentine’s Day

Can you believe a TV character named Leslie Knope of Parks and Recreation, played by Amy Poehler, created this fun holiday for women?

It started as fiction. Ina 2010 episode ofParks and Recreation, Leslie, creative and crafty and bursting with kindness for the people she loves, invented a way to do something American culture hadn’t traditionally been too good at doing: celebrating, in an official capacity, the joys of female friendship. Leslie set Galentine’s Day as a festival that would fall, each year, on February 13: Valentine’s Day-eve. And she decided that the festivities—though the real point of it all is simply to celebrate the platonic love that exists among ladyfriends—should take the form of the thing that has brought women together for decades: a long and boozy brunch. How To play Bunco

1. 12 players break into 3 tables of 4 players each.
2. Tables are numbered; table 1 is the ‘head table’; table 2 is middle; table 3 is last.
3. Players sit across from their ‘temporary team’ member at each table.
4. One player at the head table rings the bell to signal the start of the game.
5. Players at each table take turns rolling 3 dice, trying to roll the same number as the round
(ex: roll 1’s during the 1st round = points earned; 2’s during 2nd round, etc.).
6. Players keep rolling until they score no points, after which time they hand the dice to the
next player. A table scorekeeper tallies points for both teams.
7. When the head table earns 21 points, the bell is rung, and the round is over.
8. Points are added. Each table will have a winning team and a losing team. Players write
their score on their personal score sheet and indicate win (W) or loss (L).
9. Players either stay or move tables depending on whether they won or lost the round.
Instructions are on the table cards. ‘Temporary team’ members MUST switch after each
game.
BUNCO = 3 of the same number rolled matches round number (ex: three 2’s during 2nd
round = BUNCO! → BUNCO = 21 points
Baby Bunco = 3 of the same number rolled does not match round number (ex: three 2’s during
the 4th round) = Baby Bunco → Baby Bunco = 5 points

Prizing: Everyone pays $5 to play!
50% of the total pot! most buncos
30% of the total pot! high score
20% of the total pot! most wins
$5 for the lowest score and $5 for the most losses

Galentine’s Day co*cktails Alcoholic and Non-Alcoholic

I like to offer wine, soda, and a themed co*cktail with alcohol or non-alcoholic for my Bunco parties. Sammy sits in our Bunco party as a last-minute sub and doesn’t drink alcohol, so I always make her a mocktail.

I have been lately on a vodka kick for the last few months ( drinking flavored vodka with sparkling water, fewer calories than a glass of wine) and love a good cosmopolitan.

Apricot-Almond Chicken Breast served with Rice

This is a simple chicken dish that is served with rice. I look for any recipe I can make and bake while my guests arrive. The last thing you need to be doing is cooking! LOL! The rice can be made ahead and warmed up.

The Outfit

This month, I have been working with Chico’s to introduce their newest arrivals. I am wearing the new EXCLUSIVE Click Bangle since it’s only offered at Chico’s and nowhere else! This upscale accessory features a pop of red and a Chicos CC accent, plus a lock-in-place closure that’s easy to wear. Wear it with special occasions or casual looks. It also comes in three other colors. I added the Silver Tone Stretch Bracelet Set and the Red Link Bracelet to make it a bangle party!

How pretty is this Abstract Print Poncho from Chico’s? This multi-colored poncho can be dressed up or down with jeans or leggings on casual days or with pants for more upscale affairs. I am wearing Chico’s SO SLIMMING 360 Brigitte Basic Slit Ankle Pants in alabaster white to finish my outfit.
