My favorite lean protein is chicken! That’s not a big shocker, I’m sure, because I have a ton of chicken recipes on my site. Not only is it healthy, but it’s so tasty and so versatile. The other bonus? It’s affordable! I pick up chicken on every shopping trip, because we eat it all the time in our house.

These Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps are such a fun way to prepare chicken. They make the perfect light lunch or dinner that’s absolutely packed with flavor and good for you too!

  • Healthy, but packed with flavor. This meal is light, but totally satisfying thanks to all of that flavor.

Ingredients

  • Marinade: sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, chili sauce, fresh ginger, fresh garlic, lime juice, salt.
  • Vegetable Oil: We’re using a little bit of vegetable oil to sear the chicken in the skillet.
  • Chicken Breast: You’ll need ¾ pounds of boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into cubes.
  • Veggies: My preferred veggie blend is a combination of bean sprouts, carrots, and red pepper. Feel free to add other veggies if you want!

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Cut the chicken evenly. Make sure that all of the chicken cubes are relatively even in size. That way, they cook at the same rate!
  • Check the temperature. The internal temperature of chicken should be 165ºF. I recommend using a meat thermometer to verify that it’s a safe temperature before serving.
  • Wash and dry the lettuce. You’ll want to give your lettuce a good rinse, then pat it dry gently before serving your lettuce wraps.
  • If you want to save time, you can just cook the chicken, then leave the veggies raw!

Variations and Substitutions

  • Add other veggies. Feel free to bulk your filling up with whatever veggies you deem appropriate! Mushrooms, water chestnuts, or chopped celery would all make great additions.
  • Use another meat. Skip the cubed chicken breast and try this recipe using ground turkey or ground beef.
  • Skip the soy. Avoiding soy products? Swap the soy sauce out for coconut aminos.
  • Make them vegetarian. Simply use crumbled tofu in place of the chicken for a delicious vegetarian option. If you do use tofu, be sure to press it first to remove all that excess moisture.
  • Spice them up. Love your lettuce wraps with a little bit of heat? Add some spice with a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of Sriracha.

Storage Instructions

I don’t recommend storing the fully assembled lettuce wraps, but the filling can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.

To reheat, warm on low on the stove, in the oven, or in the microwave until heated all the way through.

Can these be frozen?

The filling can! To freeze your filling, let it cool completely, then store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw completely overnight before reheating.

Which Lettuce is Best for Lettuce Wraps?

I recommend using Boston lettuce for this recipe. It has enough structure that it holds up well under the chicken filling!

If you can’t find Boston lettuce, you can also use Bibb lettuce, butterhead lettuce, or Romaine lettuce.
